Why route 66?

When I was switching over from my previously preferred method of blogging over to WordPress, I was asked the question that everyone must answer at least once in their life… what will I name my blog? I actually thought about for a couple of hours while I was at work refreshing my email since I didn’t have much else to do. The out of the blue, like a ghost semi along a deserted road, it hit me: Route 66. Why? I have no idea. Something about that once glorious yet now mostly deserted road really intrigues me. My blog is obviously not about my physically crossing Route 66 in a cross-country road trip (though, one day – you never know!) but more about the trivialities of my life.

Not to get too deep, but I think that I chose “Route 66” because it is a bit of a metaphor for me. The road is my life and I’m riding along – through the wonderfully populated and joyous moments, to the ghost towns of my solitude, Route 66 represents a lot. Or maybe I’m crossing it vertically, from one side of the road to another, where the road represents the obstacles I have to overcome…? Clearly, it wasn’t too well thought out, just inspiration.

I am intrigued, though, to see how its meaning changes over time.
